
Oecophylla smaragdina can carry more than 100 times its own body weight while upside down on a smooth surface, thanks to its sticky feet.
Weaver ants build nests from leaves sewn together with silk and are very territorial. Their tendency to defend against intruders makes them a useful tool in controlling insect pests, a tradition in Chinese and south-east Asian citrus orchards for at least 1500 years.
